The purpose of Old Paths Baptist Church Missions is simple; obey the commandments given to us by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.” And in Acts 1:8, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” (KJV)
The final command of the Lord Jesus, while on this earth, was a command to carry the good news of the Gospel to the entire world. At Old Paths Baptist Church, we take that command seriously! We believe that it is our job to evangelize the world. We believe that it is our responsibility to reach our community and beyond.
We believe that the only hope for this world is the Gospel of Jesus Christ being preached to all the world by consecrated men called by God and sent out by a local church of like faith. This includes but is not limited to, missionaries, local church planting, evangelism and media based ministries. The principal work of missions is to establish local, indigenous Baptist churches in which saved, baptized believers work together to fulfill the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Old Paths Church desires to establish in the country of our labors a strong church patterned after the New Testament example. Further, we believe that in order to have a New Testament church one must follow New Testament examples and methods. We also believe that one must use all available means to spread the Gospel in this country and in foreign nations while adapting to the culture in which it is living and ministering. This must be done while adhering to the fundamentals of one’s faith and doctrine.
Old Paths Baptist Church views the call of missions in three ways, Jerusalem, Judaea and the uttermost parts of the earth. “And ye shall be witnesses unto me… in Jerusalem…” We believe that our Jerusalem is Abilene, Texas and its surrounding neighbors. “…And in all Judaea…” We believe our Judaea to be the state of Texas and the other 49 states of the United States of America. “…And unto the uttermost part of the earth.” We believe the uttermost parts of the earth to be everything outside of the United States of America.
